The Group’s brand management division, Pentland Brands, comprises a portfolio of world-class brands covering sports, outdoor and fashion. It manages owned brands such as Speedo, Berghaus, Canterbury, Mitre, Boxfresh, and Red or Dead; and also operates, under global licenses, the footwear of Lacoste and Ted Baker, and Kickers in the UK.
The Group’s retail division comprises the activities of JD Sports Fashion Limited, the UK’s leading retailer of branded sportswear, fashionwear and outdoor clothing and equipment, in which Pentland Group holds a 57% share.
Pentland Group also invests in other businesses across a number of different industries.
Headquartered in the UK, Pentland Group employs more than 19,000 people. Its brands are available across 190 countries, and it operates more than 800 stand-alone shops.
Pentland recently received its fifth Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category. These are the most prestigious UK awards for business performance, with the International Trade category recognising companies that have demonstrated substantial growth overseas.
Founded in Liverpool, UK in the early 1930s as The Liverpool Shoe Company, Pentland was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1964, before becoming privately owned again in 1999.
