The end of the European cluster of the FINA Swimming World Cup saw an impressive performance from Team Speedo, with athletes taking home a number of medals and a world record.

Team Speedo dominated the podiums, with Mack Horton taking home two golds in the 1500m and 400m freestyle, Kathleen Baker winning two silvers and one bronze in the 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke and 100m IM respectively, and Femke Hemmskerk and Pieter Timmers winning one silver and four bronze medals between them. The world record-breaker was Alia Atkinson, who gave a stellar performance in the 50m breaststroke.

The FINA Swimming World Cup gathers world-class swimmers in a series of three-day meets between August and November each year. The competition takes place across seven locations and distributes a total prize money of $2.5 million. Over 800 athletes have competed so far. Alongside their success in the pool, Speedo athletes including Alia Atkinson, Mack Horton and Mireia Belmonte also participated in FINA-led swim clinics to help coach local children.

Ben Tarrant, Speedo Sports Marketing Manager, said: “The Swimming World Cup provides us with a great platform to engage with our competitive audience, not only from an athlete and coach perspective but also with our global fans and followers. Seeing so many of our sponsored athletes swimming fast and breaking a world record is the icing on the cake. Going forward we hope to see these events staged across all key markets with the highest calibre of athletes racing.”

The next stage of the FINA Swimming World Cup takes place in Asia, beginning in Beijing on 2nd November 2018.
