It’s been the most watched TV programme of the year – and last weekend’s finale of Blue Planet 2 offered a warning to us all.
The David Attenborough-narrated BBC series highlighted the damage being wreaked on the world’s oceans by everything from climate change and overfishing to plastic pollution.
However, it also highlighted the positive work that is being done to reduce human impact, and Speedo are already helping the reduction in plastic waste with their H20 Active range.
It’s made using ECONYL®, a Nylon yarn made from fishing nets and plastics. The H2O Active range, for fitness in and out of the water, has been designed to inspire consumers to consider sustainability and the environment.
‘Sustainability really helps shape our innovation exploration,’ explains Tim Sharpe, Director of Innovation, Pentland Brands. ‘So we’re really proud that our H20 Active range is made from sustainable chlorine-resistant fabric, which includes 78% ECONYL® yarn - a nylon fibre made from regenerated plastics including abandoned fishing nets that might otherwise harm animals in the ocean.
'It’s a great start, and we are excited to continue finding new ways to improve our products and the environment through innovation.’
